This 2 hour DVD of the June 2004 Wednesday Teachers Seminar in Denver, Colorado includes a presentation by Brent and Judy Moore on "Getting around the floor: Concepts on Turning and Pivoting" and a presentation by Al and Carol Lillefield on "Dancing and Teaching the Quickstep". Brent and Judy's presentation covers: simple tums, left turns, maneuver, heel turns, telemark, impetus, pivots and spins. Al and Carors presentation covers: Dancing faster dances, closed position, banjo & sidecar, dancing your own weight, lower & rise, chasse's & locks, dancing quickstep dances, quarter turn progressive chasse, fishtail, collecting, reverse chasse turn, open impetus/wing, and running forward locks. The DVD has been edited to capture only the information and tips on dancing and teaching techniques without including all the drill sessions for the seminar attendees. |

Also included is information on what dancers perceive as difficult and why they view certain choreography as difficult and other dance material as not difficult. |

The second view shows the man performing the figure to his cues. The third view shows the lady performing the figure to her cues. The fourth view shows footwork in relationship to a direction of dance arrow on the floor. The fifth view shows the couple dancing an introduction figure, the figure being demonstrated and an exit figure. There are 5 different sets of two DVD’s each. These booklets describe and define the actions, movements and figures used in the various rhythms of round dances. The material in these booklets is divided into sections according to the rhythm and phase. Entries appear alphabetically within each appropriate section. Rhythm characteristics are defined at the beginning of each rhythm. The format for each figure within that rhythm consists of the title and abbreviation (if applicable), and the preferred cue term. Timing, basic steps for the man, and basic steps for the woman (in parentheses) follow. Descriptions of the figures are given for the MAN and WOMAN and explanatory notes (if needed). Purpose: To promote visitation between dancers in all 50 states. To encourage visitations of square dancers to regular club dances, festivals and state or national square dance conventions across state lines and around the United States. Goal: To attend a club dance, a state or national convention, or a local festival in all 50 states. A badge and a bar will be awarded to the participant(s), at no charge to them, after they have visited at least 12 states, and have a form signed and returned to USDA to be verified. Additional different colored bars will be awarded as follows: 12 states - Red bar, 24 states - White bar, 36 states - Blue bar, 48 states - Silver bar, 50 states - Gold bar. No duplication of states is permitted. You must visit each of the 50 states. Any participant who visits 48 or 50 states will also be awarded paid admission(s) to the next National Square Dance Convention. |
